A Moon Katsina, a spirit from outer space. Muuyawu is an important deity in the Hopi religion, a spirit who guards people at night and provides special lunar messages for phases of Hopi ceremonies. Muuyawu assists in maintaining a balance in the universe.

Katsinam is benevolent spirits that bring ceremonies to the Hopi. These rituals are woven throughout the year until their return to the spirit world. They represent many roles, from warriors, animals, plants, and elements such as rain and stars. As a bridge between this world and the spiritual, they are a reminder of how life should be lead.

"Codex Taawa" is an artwork series celebrating a long history of the Hopi as sky watchers and early astronomers. Living in a desert where life is a delicate balance, understanding and interpreting the earth and cosmos helps in living in a challenging environment. Taawa is the Hopi word for the Sun this name refers to many of the Codex images which depict various celestial events.
