Gerald Dawavendewa (Hopi & Cherokee)
Sowi the Jack Rabbit with cloud symbols stands upon the crescent Moon as stars rise above the Earth behind. Rain clouds gather above the Earth which holds symbols of corn, rain, and a migration spiral representing the journeys of the Earth and Moon. For the Hopi people Muuyaw the Moon is watched over by Sowi. The darker areas upon the moon’s surface symbolize the Rabbit while the lighter areas are a symbol of moisture. Muuyaw is seen as a vessel filled with water, a symbol of prayers for moisture to the Earth.
